Black Chrome
« on: November 06, 2019, 07:36:12 PM »
Hi all,
Does anyone know of an electroplating company that does black chrome?

Would be good to get feedback from anyone who's had any done because I've used a couple of firms one of which had a better finish but it could not stand up to the heat of the exhaust at all, so I had to get it re-done by a different company which did work better, but not too great either tbh.

I read on the midnight special brochure that the exhaust has "an expensive oil polished finish" when I mention this to any electroplater they don't know what that means ?
I have read a bit of info on black chroming and have only found one place that gives any technical reference to a process involving oil for a black finish which they call black oxide coating. problem is they are in Colorado!
Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hi there MM, sorry I canít really help with platers of black chrome .
In years gone by I recall the CB110r owners club found someone
But thatís 10 years ago. You could try their forum.
Have you spoken to camcoat in Warrington ? I think they can polish
their satin black finish, and that will definitely stand the header
temperatures. Iíve used it a few times, including inside stainless
headers to stop discolouring; itís clever stuff.
Good luck Loz

I bookmarked this place years ago but have never used them. Might be worth a look as they do show bright and black chrome : http://www.merridalepolishingandplating.co.uk/
