Fuel system on the Elevens - interchangable?
« on: May 18, 2019, 11:05:51 PM »
Anyone have changed the fuel-system from a special to a standard? Have problem with the vacumoperated system on my special and might have to get rid of it and change to the system on the standard (like the 78 E I had once b4). Does it work changing the petcocks only and what about the vacumpipe to the engine (?) - just to plug it? Does the E and G 's petcocks fit the tank on the S and L or can I use the ones I have just blocking the vacumline on the petcocks?
Thanks for answers!

Hi Hermod,
i'm pretty sure the spacing of the tap bolts is different between the Specials and the Standards.
On my Special I've got rid of the "octopus" and run the taps directly to the carbs on the PRIME position. I've blocked off one of the exits on each tap. You'll still get a RESERVE position though.

Interesting thought... But don't you need 'members' for a 'Club'..?

If you can't bleed your bike's brakes then you can't have a bike.

Someone on another forum has said that the reserve will be lost. I thought it was still there. Yes maybe it is as long as the tap is set to ON.

Well - it's been some discussions throughout this media and others re throwing away the octopus system on the models that have it and what to  do redoing the system for sure. (!)(!)
End of discussion shows this after removing the octopus system IF you want to;
1. Block the vacuum line to the engine since u don't need it anymore.
2. Block the  back-ends of the petcocks.
3. Use the front-ends of the petcocks to route the tubes to the carbs. By this u can use both the ON and RES position with out changing to another type of petcocks.
4. If u want to align the right and left side of the petroltank u make the new tubes into a H-connex near the carbs....simple and clever so the petrol-level is constant on both side of the SMALL tank of the Specials....

If any have comments - speak :finger:
