NGK spark plugs
« on: February 13, 2019, 11:04:43 PM »
Re NGK spark plugs
when I bought my 81 special last year it was equipped with BP7ES plugs; they didn't last long b4 they went black. Now I've found out the plugs should be BP6ES - ......? ....and does any have used iridium plugs?

I've used 7 without problems, I'd look at carb mixture first.

So - why's the workshopmanual saying BP6ES?
Nxt; Someone recommended Iridium plugs - no-one tried them?

My copy of the Haynes manual states BP8ES, so does the big blue poster thing, though i'm running with BP6ES plugs.
Doesn't the number represent the heat range of the plug?I've heard that the iridium plugs are just a fancy, overpriced gimmick.????

Interesting thought... But don't you need 'members' for a 'Club'..?

If you can't bleed your bike's brakes then you can't have a bike.

Yep 6 is hotter than 7 and 8 for NGK. Not the same way round as Champion and Bosch, the hotter the plug the higher the number.

The iridium plugs dont like being fouled up , stick with the  old school  ngk 6 ...less hassle cheaper to replace ...more money for beers  :yipee: ...

I have a zzr14  and it stood last winter  for about 4 months ,went to put it back on the road an it developed a misfire ,bad fuel ? Replaced the plugs an away she went   .. my ol ducati fired up an ran ok ...same petrol ..  bike had 6500 miles on it so i had a look around an found lots of guy's complaining  that the iridium  plugs dont do big miles or  dodgy old petrol ?!

I used Irridium ones on my turbo bike once. The only difference I noticed was that they were more expensive than the standard ones. They even did not last long ...
