They prep the track using old competition tyres donated pulled by a tractor, the whole track surface is covered in rubber.

We run in Funny Bike class, its an old school single carb/draw through turbo and NOS bike that is heavy, against lightweight NOS 4 carb bikes, the new track should benefit us more than them.

Yep - looks like a good solid launch with the wheelie bars doing their thing allowing weight transfer rearward and limiting vertical force - Do you set the wheelie bar height Tom ???

Yes we do set the height, its critical. When launching the rear tyre twists that much and stretches across the wheel at the bottom/track that the whole bike drops, and drops onto the front wheel and the wheely bar wheels, which if not set quite right takes weight off the rear tyre, which you don't want on launch. Races can be won or lost on the wheely bar height, amongst another million variables. Too high and as you say, we get vertical thrust, no use for going forward, and the bike becomes "bigger" from a frontal streamlining aspect.

Thanks for your reply Tom , I realise that setting is critical but hadn't understood the implications of the bike squatting on the deformed rear (I think I was thinking of it in  terms of a road bike inflated tyre) so I have learnt something today - do you run with an inner like the big car tyres ? - and yes I can understand there are a hundred and one small things to influence performance , keep up the good work Tom  - regards Kev

An inner? tube?. No, its tubeless, and runs at 5 psi. Makes you wonder how it stays on doesn't it.

Thanks Tom - it really helps (me) working somewhere automotive related - I've moved house (again) from the last photos and have not got very good lighting in my garage - so taking stuff in to work on in my lunch hour is really useful and I'm chuffed at the results so far - regards Kev

I havent seen them advertised anywhere  ,are they clear or white background ?   There are ones on fleabay but they are the black background ...maybe worth trying  classic decals...or getting some  printed up  may be the only option. Not that you havent thought about it ..

Always the same its the attention to detail that feks it up on the finish line ,   :frustrated:   still a great job !
