Title: battery drain problem
Post by: huddie on April 06, 2011, 06:31:54 PM
Hi Guys, Been reading many posts on this problem and I am currently testing aspects of the bike for parasitic drains etc. My question tonight follows the replies from members who back up their start problems with the use of a kick start. That seem like a simple but very useful way to get round the sluggish starter motor resonse.
So I have looked on ebay for one but no joy. Do you guys know of a kickstart from any other bikes that will match the splines on the xs1100?.
Regards Huddie

Which XS1100 have you??  Coz it matters.

I have a RD250 kickstart lever on mine, but there is issues around footrest clearance, I think one of the NZ lads on here had trouble putting a folding lever on his Sport. Mine is on a bike with custom made rearsets which were made to clear the swing of the lever.

XS750/850 US models have a slight dog-leg in the lever which might clear the footrest, worth looking at. I think most of the bigger Yamaha of the same era splines are the same.

Hi Tom It is a 1978 Model that makes it an E if I'm correct.

I think the XS750 US style dog-legged levers will fit the 1978 2H9, the anoraks on here will tell you that the E was a US model designation :anorak :anorak :anorak but we know what you mean

I have one to go on my 2H9, not tried it yet

Here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/77-YAMAHA-XS650D-XS650-XS-650-D-KICKSTART-LEVER-/180545345915?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a0957597b) is a dog-legged lever to show what I'm waffling about.

And a straight one clicky (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/78-YAMAHA-XS650-XS-650-SPECIAL-KICKSTART-LEVER-/400044591899?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d24840b1b) to show the difference,

The dog-legged gives more clearance

And clicky (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-XS850-Special-1050-Kick-Start-Starter-Lever-/360352808894?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53e6b37fbe) an XS850 lever with more of a dogleg so more clearance and a better price :winker:
